After years or even decades of not maintaining your sprinkler system the valves will seize up, alarm bells will rust, and sprinkler heads are possibly recalled by the manufacturer because they will not function properly. After years of sitting untouched, the water will actually condensate outside of the pipe and air will take it's place, which can create brittle and leaking fittings.
The importance of understanding where the on/off valve and other components are located can make all the difference. If a sprinkler is accidentally damaged by the grandkids playing soccer inside the house, do you know where the valve is to turn the water off preventing extreme water damage? Also if somebody accidentally shut the water valve, the fire damage could be devastating if not life threatening.
After passing inspection, Coastwest Fire provides an NFPA Title-19 document certifying the fire sprinkler system. This can be given to the insurance company or used as an important document if selling or buying a house.
